Application Process
The Marriage Affidavit (PDF) can be completed from your computer and printed or you may pick up a Marriage Affidavit from our office. There is a required three (3) day waiting period to obtain the license after submission of an application.
Michigan Residents
Michigan residents must apply for the license in the county where either applicant is a resident. The license is valid throughout the State of Michigan. For complete application process please see County Resident Applicants.
Out-of-State Applicants
Out-of-state applicants must apply in the county where they are to be married. The license is valid in that county only. Please call the Clerk's Office to verify ceremony location is within the boundaries of Grand Traverse County. For complete application process please see Out of State Applicants.
Marriage license must be picked up prior to the wedding ceremony.

Marriage License
The marriage ceremony must be performed within 33 days from the date of application or the marriage license becomes void. Do not apply if the ceremony is more than 33 days from today.
